Authorities from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have also started looking into issues pertaining to the tenure of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, according to Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem Sai.
Mr. Srem Sai stated that “it has to do with his tenure as Minister of Finance,” but he did not elaborate.
Mr. Srem Sai continued, “At this time, all I can tell you is that EOCO and NIB are also after him.”
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a wanted list for Mr. Ofori-Atta for “using his office for profit.”
According to material now accessible to the public, the OSP is searching for him for five reasons:
Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance: Agreements between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited.
Electricity Company Contract Termination: The agreement between Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC) and the Electricity Company of Ghana has been terminated.
National Cathedral Project: The National Cathedral’s financial transactions and procurement processes.
Ambulance Procurement: 307 ambulances will be bought and maintained under a Ministry of Health contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited.
GRA Tax P-Fund Management: Managing and allocating funds from the GRA’s Tax P-Fund Account.
Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta’s problems are exacerbated by the Deputy Attorney-General’s most recent revelation.
There are many rumors that the former finance minister has committed money laundering-related offenses because EOCO’s mandate includes such crimes.
But in an interview with JoyNews, Mr. Srem Sai pointed out that “being sought after does not imply that you have committed a crime.”
