Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, informed President John Dramani Mahama that his administration had fired many young people who had worked for the previous administration in less than a hundred days, at the same time that he was lamenting the rise in youth unemployment.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament following President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address, he stated: “He is telling us today that we have 2.2 million youths unemployed, but what he has forgotten is that in his administration, all we know is sack them, and dismissals, on the streets of Accra today, the youth of the country are saying Maham baako termination bebreebeee [To wit: With Just Mahama, we have a lot of termination of appointments].”
President John Dramani Mahama stated during the SONA that Ghana’s largest problem is youth unemployment.
He points out that national security is at risk due to youth unemployment. He said that in order to solve the issue of youth unemployment, he established the Ministry of Youth Development.
“Youth unemployment has led to frustration and despair,” the president stated. This needs immediate response because it presents a serious security risk to our nation.
President Mahama also asked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and their parliamentary minority not to skip the next national economic forum, as they did at the Senchi Forum.
He said he wants to get everyone on board to improve the nation in his first State of the Nation Address, which he gave in Parliament on Thursday, February 27.
He declared, “I have no doubt that the sacrifices we have all made this year will help our county in the future.”
He emphasized, “Together, we shall build the Ghana we all want.” Afenyo-Markin
