My Vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through rich ideas – Bawumia speaks after filing nominations

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday, August 28, filed his nomination papers to contest the NPP’s flagbearer slot and addressed a large crowd, outlining his vision for Ghana.

A four-time running mate, two-term Vice President, and the NPP’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Bawumia told party members that his extensive experience makes him “the most prepared candidate for the NPP, and for President in 2028.”

He highlighted his record of impactful interventions as Vice President and then shifted focus to his broad vision for Ghana.

“My vision is to expand the Ghanaian economy through bold ideas such as a flat tax system for individuals, corporations, and imports, while creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and accelerate job creation,” Dr. Bawumia said.

He added: “My vision is to introduce measures that reduce the cost of living for the average Ghanaian and provide stronger support for the vulnerable. I will adopt a constituency-based development and budgeting framework to ensure that local people benefit the most and individual well-being is enhanced.”

Outlining further priorities, Dr. Bawumia said:

“My vision is for a modern digitalized economy that offers equal opportunities to all—including women, the physically challenged, and the grassroots—not just the rich.”
“My vision is for a fair and accessible credit system, similar to advanced economies.”
“My vision is to energize domestic production and job creation, dedicating 3% of GDP expenditure currently undertaken by the public sector to the private sector, with procurement made locally.”
He stressed that these goals would be anchored on a strong, disciplined, and united NPP.

Dr. Bawumia urged the rank and file of the party to “join me on this journey to rebuild our party and reposition this great tradition to deliver for Ghanaians from 2028.”
