GBC’s DC Kwame Kwakye honoured in Cape Coast’s new sanitation advocacy initiative

In a landmark initiative to enhance the sanitary conditions of Cape Coast and establish it as a premier tourist destination, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) unveiled its inaugural cohort of Sanitation Ambassadors.

The official announcement was made on Thursday, January 8, 2026, by Nana Kweku Arhin, Deputy Media Manager for the assembly, and was subsequently published on his Facebook wall.

DC Kwame Kwakye, a distinguished broadcast journalist and fatherhood advocate at GBC Radio Central, was recognized as one of the ambassadors for his instrumental role in emphasizing environmental cleanliness, championing citizens’ rights, and urging relevant authorities to take action for the improvement of the metropolis and the nation as a whole.

Upon citing the announcement, Kwakye noted that it was a humbling experience for the CCMA to bestow upon him such an honour, pledging to devote himself to improving the overall sanitation situation of the assembly.

“I wouldn’t take this for granted. If the CCMA under the leadership of George Justice Arthur has deemed me worthy, I am humbled to contribute my expertise towards enhancing the sanitary conditions of the metropolis”, he stated

On the contrary he underscored “Most leaders get offended when societal issues are highlighted; this reflects the MCE’s leadership style, demonstrating inclusivity and a willingness to serve. Thank you once again to the CCMA for the honour bestowed upon me and Congratulations to us”, he stated.

As a distinguished Broadcast Journalist who has devoted most of his endeavours to advocating for societal reforms, ‘I perceive this accolade as a testament to my dedication’, he emphasized.

Sanitation Ambassadors are community advocates and implementers who promote hygiene, cleanliness, and sustainable waste management, often by contributing to installation of innovative sanitation systems, educating the public, and creating local jobs in managing these systems, focusing on solutions that are environmentally friendly and serve underserved areas, transforming waste into resources like fertilizer.

Other distinguished sons and daughters included in the list are Apostle Emmanuel Abeiku Aggrey, IamDr Spice, Frank Asorba Kofi Essuman, Saint Akapo, Michael Bosomtwe, Daniel Appiah, Frederick Addison, Nana Brown, Kob Man, Richard Hagan, Nana Yarquah, Newlords Gh, Nana Ayensu, Kwesi Oppong and Buzstop Boys.
